As I was searching for a job in fashion design, I came across a company that very much intrigued me. ModCloth, at Modcloth.com, is an online retailer focus on promoting small designers and businesses at a modest price. Their website is absolutely adorable, showcasing mostly vintage inspired pieces, and authentic vintage finds. I am absolutely in love with this dress:
What I also found inspiring, was the story behind the company. ModCloth was founded by high school sweethearts, Susan and Eric Kroger. Susan was an avid shopper of thrift and vintage shops, so much so that she would buy pieces that were not even her size! And now she shares her love of unique pieces and great finds with the world by selling them online. Eric takes care of the business end and their company has grown by leaps and bounds since its beginning in 2002, to include women's, men's, accessories, shoes, and decor. They incorporate customer involvement through Facebook and Twitter and have their own blog through the website.
And it sounds like it is fun to work there, too! Their offices seem laid back and to truly cultivate individual creativity. They have a dog friendly work environment, where even Susan and Eric's pug, Winston, is working hard and making friends. Overall, ModCloth is an inspiration to follow your dreams and do what you love. And we could all use a bit of that everyday!
